Hello Smiley,
I agree with your MS vs Mac views (although I am sure that if Apple starts claiming there are no viruses on OSX then you will start seeing them arriving quickly...so we better not say anything!).
Then there is the point of celebration. Ok, Apple could celebrate, that will not do any arm but the question is...will it be efficient? Will it help?
I think Apple is not the kind of company to look backwards. The only way for them to survive is to innovate always faster than the competition...so no looking back!
It will be interesting to see the development of mobile phones capabilities with regards to music...ie, what standard they will go for.
No doubt Windows in there (o2 XDA, Orange SPV) so will push for WMA. Real is there as well with a mobile phone player.
How much the mobile industry through 3gpp can influence the market...I don't know but that is a space to watch as well.
This is more relevant in Europe & Asia than in US as mobile phone adoption & mobile internet is higher than in US.
With regards to devices...I am dreaming of a iPhone.
There you go...and after that why not porting OS X to Windows...erm...Intel?
The main benefits of porting Safari to Windows will be for the users of Safari for Apple: with Safari I cannot access opodo.co.uk to buy flight tickets, I cannot access my online bank. Maybe if Safari is ported to Windows then web developer will make sure there HTML/JavaScript are supported by Safari.
I agree with a previous comment about "why for?"...where is the money in that move that will definitly annoy Microsoft even more for benefits I cannot really see.
Maybe Apple should concentrate on facilitation the development of OpenOffice.
I want to see iTunes for Windows and enhancement to iPod capabilities (memory cards, photos...). Why not an iPod with a camera included?
And I want to see the share price going up !!!
Very much to the point and funny as well. There is a lot of hype. I have tried Panther for a little while, once you move back to 10.2 then you really miss the new Finder which is the best addition.
The rest as you rightly said is nice but overall this is not a tremendous 'jump'.
I just hope it will be a bit faster!
